We need planets in Orxonox. The planets will have a realistic size, that means we will have to deal with extremely large meshes. The developer accepting this task will have to think about:

  • How to create textures easily for many planets?
  • What role will gravity play?
  • How can levels of detail be implemented in a efficient way?

Some of my thoughts about this ticket:

  • When I talked to Felix earlier I was thinking about planets where we cannot land (yet). On the surface the planet will be close to a plane, there must not be edges in the ground, when flying or walking/driving on the surface.
  • But for now just think about a large object, very far away and with no possibility to come close.
  • As this is a fairly general task, use Jupiter as an example. Jupiter will most certainly be the largest planet we'll have in the game, so try to create this and any other planet shouldn't be a problem.
